HONDO: Hondo Recycling Center, 404 Disoway (Disoway intersects Ave. Y across from the Sheriff's Office); PH: 426-3166; Hours: Thursday and Friday Noon until 6:30 pm; Saturday from 8 am until 4 pm. Attendant will help take your donations up to the bin. Call on days open to get numbers for scrap metal or junk pick-up.
City trash, city and county recycling offered. Take paper, cardboard, metal, glass, and styrofoam. No need to separate items. Will take furniture. If you need wood or metal for a project, check to see if they have some to give away. Browse for other discards you may need.
Pater only at yellow and green bin on staff parking lot between elementary and middle school on Ave. Q. Do NOT take cardboard here! Money earned from materials dropped here are used to benefit the schools.
Diaz Recysling - 9 am until 5 pm on Saturday; 1304 17th St.; accept aluminum cans and car batteries.
Call 830-665-9587 or 210-416-6051 and ask for Joe or Diane. They buy tin, wire, heavy iron, old tractors, trucks and cars. They also buy used and non-working appliances with free pick-up and haul away.
The Lions Club - old eyeglasses and some hearing aids - boxes at opticians, hospitals, etc.
First Baptist Church - used cell phones and used printer cartridges - call Jim Haertner at 426-5506 for information. Donations help buy playground equipment, etc.
New Fountain UMC - UPC labels from Swanson broth and canned chicken; Campbell's soup; V8 and V8 Fusion, Prego Pepperidge Farms products, Also used stamps - especially foreign stamps - all go to support mission projects.
Handicapped Citizens Group and various churches accept aluminum cans.
OTHER ITEMS AND PLACES TO DONATE:
Some retailers have take-back options or discounts for new one for old (Dell, HP and Gateway); check for stocking fees.
